Shalen
Shalen's Story
My name is Shalen Fox and I have been in recovery since July 5th, 2016. I am from Saskatchewan, Canada. I started drinking at the age of 13 to try and fit in with my friends. My tolerance started to build as I began to drink to celebrate and have “fun” which then turned into me drinking to release stress. I was using alcohol to numb my emotions, which was not healthy. I was running from my own pain and traumas from childhood. I then tried coke at the age of 19 and quickly fell in love with it. I kept chasing that first time high. I went down hill for years after and was living in denial, I wanted to blame everyone else but me for what had happened. My rock bottom moment was when I spent $20,000 in less than 3 weeks due to my addictions. I had always wanted to quit but had tried over 1000 times on my own and that didn’t work. After that, I finally had the courage to ask for help to attend rehab, I finally put my ego and pride aside. In order to get different results you must make different choices.
